It was back in 1862 when Gustav Klimt, painter, art genius and libertine, was born in Vienna.
Due to his 150th birthday Vienna pays tribute to his work with various special exhibitions:
- see his most famous work “The Kiss”, at the Upper Belvedere. Rumors say that the couple depicted on the huge painting decorated with gold and silver are Klimt and his intimate Emilie Flöge. www.belvedere.at
- take a closer look at the stairwell at the Museum of Fine Arts where Klimt depicted the main epochs of art history with symbolic figures. The museum has set up a special bridge to bring visitors closer than ever www.khm.at
- private insight of Klimt’s life provides a special exhibition at the Leopold Museum: letters, postcards and correspondence with contemporaries and his muse Emilie Flöge are on display as well as his major work “Death and Life”. www.leopoldmuseum.org
